Artists Profile
Nathaniel Hiller has been painting for 15 years and has exhibited work throughout Tasmania and Victoria before moving to Brisbane early in 2007.
The 35 year old says that a combination of the spectacular Tasmanian environment, French impressionism, local Tasmanian artists (Roger Murphy, Philip Wolfhagen and Geoff Dyer to name a few) and an artist and art teacher father were the perfect inspiration to begin dabbling in art. He had his first joint exhibition with his father in 1996 and since then has excelled selling over 40 works a year in both Tasmania and Victoria.
In 2001 he moved to Melbourne to further his career as an Art Director in Advertising. As well as sending work back to Tasmania he sold numerous commissions and exhibited work in Artasis and the Swan Street Gallery.
His main medium has been watercolour on paper but had more recently enjoyed the freedom of larger works using acrylic and ink on canvas.
He had adapted his subject matter to his environment with bright, bold watercolours around the Derwent River in Hobart, to contrasty urban Melbourne and Brisbane scenes. His latest series is based on weekend trips away around South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
As well as exhibiting work he is available for commissions and commercial illustration work.

Glass House Mountains in cloud
Acrylic on canvas 120cm x 100cm
The following series was inspired by a couple of trips down the coast to the Glass House Mountains and the Tweed Valley. The misty, drizzly Tweed Valley weekend reminded me of Fern Tree at the base of Mount Wellington in Hobart. It's a vast different from the brown nature strips and sports fields around Brisbane at the moment.

November 2006 Optomeyes Exhibition
I'm very happy to confirm that I sold 8 out of 8 paintings in the 2006 Optomeyes Exhibition. I'm especially happy because I experimented with a few ink drawings this year (see scrapbook link). I really think drawing and painting more in every spare moment helped my fluidity and confidence. It definately shows in the paintings.
